The Ultimate Wedding Planning Checklist


Let's face it, no matter how much time you have, wedding preparation takes a long time to finish. In reality, the average time spent preparing a wedding is around 240 hours! With job commitments, friends, and family, it might be challenging to research and hire the providers that will make your wedding unique. Not to mention all of the details, options, and decisions that come with arranging one of life's most important celebrations.


As a result, we created a timeline guide (which you can download in a shortened form here) that includes all of the tasks you'll need to do in the lead-up to your wedding.


One year and more before the wedding

You said yes, and now it's time to party! All of the new stuff might be overwhelming, but now is the ideal time to connect with your future spouse and genuinely have in-depth talks about how you both imagine your wedding day.

  • Announce your engagement!

  • Choose your wedding party

  • Hire a wedding planner

  • Decide the theme and style

  • Choose a venue

  • Hire a caterer

11-10 months before the wedding

Prepare your Pinterest boards and choose your favorite colors, wedding apparel, and photographs. This is the period when you will be reviewing vendors who are actually booked months in advance. But that's part of the joy of finding the right one!

  • Choose a color scheme

  • Hire a photographer, videographer, band, DJ, and florist

  • Pick out your wedding attire and/or go dress-shopping

  • Shop around for wedding invitations

9-7 months before the wedding

Ready to spread the news of your wedding?

  • Buy wedding attire and/or wedding dress

  • Send out your save-the-dates

  • Start a wedding gift registry

  • Choose favorite florals

  • Research and book your rehearsal dinner location

  • Select music for the wedding ceremony

  • Research and select rentals

  • Hire an officiant

6-5 months before the wedding

We've made it halfway to the finish line! If your wedding site is a long distance away from where your guests will be sleeping. Remember to reserve hotel rooms and organize transportation for you and your visitors.

  • Book transportation for yourself and your guests

  • Reserve your honeymoon

  • Place a rental order or buy wedding party attire

4-2 months before the wedding

The big day is almost here before you know it. Use this time to do some pampering and connect with your future spouse to outline the ceremony and what you both want.

  • Choose your wedding cake

  • Order wedding bands

  • Make appointments for hair and makeup trials

  • Choose favors for guests

  • Send out your wedding invitations

  • Begin writing your vows

  • Think about ceremony readings

  • Break in those wedding shoes

1 month before the wedding

Congrats! Youe are in the final days and soon single digits until you marry the love of your life. Remember to finalize your plans and commitments to prevent worrying in the days leading up to the big day.

  • Assemble gift bags

  • Make final payments to vendors

  • Create a seating chart

  • Go through a final venue walkthrough

  • Final wedding attire fitting

  • Practice your vows out loud

The night before the wedding

You did it! Pop the bottles of champagne. You’re getting married tomorrow!

  • Eat healthy meal

  • Drink water

  • Get a good night's sleep
